Well, if you hadn’t already figured from the web site title and all, I’m Andrew. I’m in my final year of my Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology at WelTec, majoring in Programming. I’m currently based in Petone, Wellington with my totally rad and excellent partner, Wen
I’m from the illustrious burg of Wanganui, New Zealand. After discovering a passion for anything with an engine at high school( and after my first choice of being a helicopter pilot didn’t work out due to my eyesight being far too terrible to be trusted with multi-million dollar equipment and people’s lives), I originally trained as an Auto Mechanic, attaining my trade qualification and working for 6 years as a Service Technician for Nissan, Kia, Toyota and Lexus dealers. I loved the hell out of wrenching on finest cars Toyota and Lexus had to offer, but the career wasn’t giving me the challenge I needed. So, I thought I’d try breaking and fixing something else I’m interested in: computers and technology.
Making this change has only reinforced my love of tinkering with all manner of mechanical and electrical machines. I believe the pinnacle of engineering was when some genius decided that attaching an engine to a bicycle was a great idea. The late great MotoGP racer Marco Simoncelli summed it up in one sentence: “you live more for 5 mins going fast on a bike than a than other people do in all of their life”. If you want to kill an easy hour, ask me about anything motorcycling.
Other things I enjoy are puns/dad jokes, playing board games, staying fit, reading anything sci-fi/Jack Reacher themed and channeling my true nerd with a night of D & D.
Side note: my love of coffee is possibly bordering on pathological.
